As technology continues to improve, employees are finding it more and more necessary to keep in touch with what’s going on in the company at all times. For years, some accounting software products have been able to update employees through text messages send to phones. However, no one was able to develop a mobile accounting solution that would fit on the limited screens and keyboards of mobile phones. This has all changed with the introduction of the BlackBerry and iPhone.
Intuit began supporting these phones with its online Quickbooks, allowing users to carry out many tasks such as checking contracts, checking bank balances, and running reports all from their mobile phone. Other companies quickly seized on the opportunity to gain their share of this newly developed mobile accounting industry. CODA, a UK-based accounting software provider released its on product that could perform similarly to Intuit’s product. Xero soon also began supporting these phones with features and has a dramatic increase in the number of mobile phone accesses to its service.
Although mobile accounting is still in its early stages of development, the advances made in this field makes the future look bright for mobile accounting software. Companies will continue to invest and improve on existing technologies and will provide customers with advanced software packed with features in the future.
